In the event that the building has had added thicknesses of fascia at the recesses making tighter fit than the size presented in 3.01 above or conduits, pipes, drains, tile has been added which was not present at time of field measure, B & C will field alter or notch the physical dimension of the units as needed (without a resubmission of drawings and intent) to avoid an additional mobilization .

A. B & C  may l Cut and Trim units during installation erection in accord with field circumstance and touch up surfaces to match existing .

B. All units will be installed in a professional manner by fully qualified and trained installers. When two levels exist on two sides, of a building unless Contractor has previously marked out unit positioning, installers may use their best judgment to obtain the most suitable optical effect in alignment

Units manufactured or installed by B & C, should be regularly (at least quarterly) inspected, maintained and cleaned in order to keep their appearance and integrity and Warranty. Application of a “mild “soap solution or degreasing agent, “low pressure water spray” together with light brush strokes can be applied. Areas damaged by abrasion or impact should be detected, renovated and sealed to avoid further water penetration, Scratched or chipped surfaces should be touched up as needed to retain an as new appearance and extend the useful surface life. The use of “High Pressure” Water Jets which may propel grit particles and damage surface areas or adjacent windows should be avoided. A prerequisite for proper care and maintenance of the coated surfaces is that the units are regularly cleaned according to the guidelines of The Registered Quality Association For Cleaning Of Façade Elements. All the work must be carried out by a member of the above named Association with detergents and cleaning aids in accord with RAL-GZ 632 1996 and certified by the same association for the cleaning of façade surfaces with coated surfaces. Architects, General Contractors and owners are reminded and warned that “heat” is the principle whereby molecular changes are applied to materials in general especially metals. In California expect high temperatures through sunlight and low through rain or occasionally snow. All these effect Steel, Glass, Metal, Alloy, Wood, Plastic or Finish responses, performance and appearance of the special finishes. Metals Which require Hot Dipped Galvanizing, Oven Baking, as part of the finish applications change in temper, electrical conductivity, appearances (softness or hardness) of base material. Sheet and Plate Materials are subject to wrinkle on the surfaces during oven baking or after installation where one portion is in the Shade and another Sunlight. Both straight and shaped materials are given to distortion, Galvanized treatments may bend, and leave rough scaly surfaces which will show through leaving uneven coatings. Anodized materials may discolor at weld and machined points all of which eventualities and conditions lay outside of B & C Awnings Inc control, intent to minimize or anticipate and for which B & C Awnings Inc can accept no responsibility or be held responsible for not informing the buyer. Architects are expected to be fully experienced have consulted, engineers, metal and finish experts on all phases of the design and be actively attendant in factory on all phases of fabrication and on site installation at home or abroad.

When Installation is required, B & C Awnings will comply with rulings under sections 1770-1780 of the labor code or the Davies Bacon Act only when such a requirement are clearly stated in the specifications and a cost for this impact is shown on B & C’s proposal .Where omitted from B & C’s proposal and later required by a Contractor this will require a change order. It is to be understood that these codes will only apply to the installation element of the contract.

The highly skilled and specialized operation of Caulking, Sealing and Flashing (see 3.04) is excluded from all work provided by B & C. This service should be provided by specialists working on other aspects of the same project unless specifically shown on the shop drawing attached. In many instances flashing must be installed “before” Canopy unit. is installed inset undercutting stucco. This procedure lays outside the scope of B & C installers. who are not responsible for the performance or none performance of caulking if or when applied and provides no warranty against water penetration, seal or tightness on canopies. This is a final finishing and maintenance issue subject to horizontal expansion and vertical contraction of metal units and especially in plastics or composites with high expansion rates. Technical expert advice should be sought for in this regard

3.313-Metal Shade Devices– A simple check to establish the existence of backing at the correct location  is for Field Technician Assistant(s) to drill a small ¼” hole in the center of Bracket Points. If no backing is located fill the holes to restore the original appearance then The Crew Chief  must contact (1109)-The Project Manager and in his absence 1112-The Project Managers Secretary at the same time assigning other tasks to Field Technician Assistant(s) until the matter is resolved .Under no circumstances must Field Technician Assistant(s) be permitted to stand around awaiting a resolution and The Crew Chief has a duty to always have in hand a number of tasks which can be assigned to Field Technician Assistant(s) to keep each one of them productive.

3.314- Metal Shade Devices– All backing or blocking is a Structural Matter, it is always excluded from B & C’s scope of work and provided by the General Contractor/Buyer, If no backing has been provided , is either missing in part or incorrectly placed or of the wrong type – The Crew Chief must call The Project Manager for instructions who may either withdraw the installation team, authorize installation to proceed where there is suitable backing, request a change order for additional an additional trip charge or authorize if necessary The Crew Chief to drill or lay out backing location  to ensure correct placement

3.315- Metal Shade Devices– The Crew Chief with the help of Field Technician Assistant(s) should locate the center of the Canopy Unit measuring the left then the right to find where at the ends the unit is to be attached and mark with pencil. He may also mark out the position of Support Arms (if any) If the Unit does not fit contact -The Project Manager and in his absence – Project Managers Coordinator

3.316– Metal Shade Devices– Using a Straight Line or Chalk Line stretched between the marks in (3.315) The Crew Chief with the help of Field Technician Assistant(s) should Snap the Chalked String or Straight Line Mark the intended Canopy Location to establish a Level between all the attachment points shown on Shop Drawings (See 3.315) The Crew Chief must ensure that all the markings will finally be covered by Canopy. Again Support Arms (if any) may be marked out at this time of later.

3.317-Metal  Shade Devices– With reference to the approved Shop Drawings, Crew Chief may direct that brackets and Support Arms be placed following procedure (3016) and at this time the positions marked. Alternatively Brackets and Support Arms my be applied after procedure (3.318) especially when Unit Brackets and Support Arm Brackets are pre-attached to the unit For Drawings which indicate Lag Bolts  ¼” to 3/8” Diameter no pre-drilling is necessary for larger bolts, ½”-Diameter Anchors pre-drill using a ¼ “ bit for 5/8” use a 7/16” for ¾” use a ½” bit  -Although approved Drawings may say Caulking and Sealants by others, Always inject Caulking Sealant into hole and impact until snug.

3.318-Metal Shade Devices– The Crew Chief is to determine if Shop Drawings call for insulators against dissimilar metals, bolt rubber or metal space washers or pipe spacer extensions to make up gaps in uneven back surface. If surface is uneven the mater should be brought to the attention of the Project Manager for his directives.

3.319-Metal Shade Devices– When using either Ladders, Hand Crank, Boom, Scissor Lift, Ladders or other The Crew Chief is to ensure the ground is level and pressure safe for the equipment which must be correctly positioned for lifting with no tendency to list.. The units are to be hand carried onto or loaded onto the lift or ladders by fully trained Field Technician Assistant(s) assigned to the lift or carry by the Crew Chief. The Field Technician Assistant(s) are then to raise the unit level with and ensure that the Chalk Line or Marker Line or Points are covered as in (3.316). The Crew Chief will usually direct that the Brackets or Support Arms be installed (if any) at this point rather than earlier (3017) to avoid later misalignment, errors in Bracket or Support Arm Placement or chalk line exposure which cannot be removed. Often Technician Assistant (s) are instructed by the Crew Chief to assemble and attach all the Hanger Support Arms onto the unit before hoisting which aids exact placement. The anchor holes are then marked and drilled as soon after the unit is correctly placed with the first brackets secured and progressively in sequence thereafter.

3.320- Metal Shade Devices– In Masonry Structures or Decking where Red-Head Anchors are to be employed The Crew Chief has the responsibility to check the Shop Drawings or Specifications that the correct type of Red-Head is being used. The Crew Chief directs and assigns his Technician Assistant(s) to the correct Drill Equipment and Drill Bit Sizes. His technicians apply a tape on their drill bits marking the correct degree of penetration. After the final holes are drilled, The Crew Chief visually watch the Technician Assistant(s) clean out with brush and blow out the holes and insert a depth measure to prove the correct depth of penetration has been achieved to satisfy any future independent inspections At the time of loading, if for any reason the correct Red-Head of the specified type is not available The Crew Chief must not proceed with any substitute but must report this matter to The Project Manager for his determination.

3.321-Metal Shade Devices– Installation which is applied to Masonry Structures by Technician Assistant(s) is under the direction of The Crew Chief. who will check that the correct drill hole sizing meets with the Manufacturers recommendations and that Epoxy is applied into a clean brushed and blown out hole in the correct manner. Technician Assistant(s) must insert the Stud in the hole with a twisting motion to ensure full circular adhesion and slightly tap for complete embedment. Allow the Epoxy to set for the recommended time. Following application of the Brackets or Units. Apply Nuts and Washes onto the Stud then Torque to correct specifications.

3.322-Metal Shade DevicesOn Bolt through Applications The Crew Chief. should carry out extensive preliminary location inspection both inside and out. He must give special attention to drill size, length and any indications or evidence that Contractor has applied any obstruction. All though Approved on Drawings ,confirmation should be sought from Contractors site Foreman before proceeding that any bolt through wall penetration is perfectly safe. Following this procedure Technician Assistant(s) should apply backing plate, washers, appropriate bolt through on the inside and outside apply Brackets, Washers Nuts, Spacers etc, then torque as per drawings and specifications.

3.322-Metal Shade Devices– The Crew Chief is to ensure that in every case where overhead support arms are required the position for the two extreme ends (and others) should be established by reference to the approved shop drawings and a level determined and lightly marked Not visible following their installation. Verticals should then be established which relate with exactness to the precise position of the bracket already attached to the Shade Units. Having established bracket plate positions correct hole sizes should be drilled in accord with 3.320 and 3.321 and anchor bolts inserted then torqued. In accord with the approved Shop Drawings.

3.401-Fabric Shade Systems– The Crew Chief is to determine the location of the Awning unit on the building by checking the plans and Shop Drawings. If there appears to be any discrepancy The Crew Chief must first contact the Contractor Buyers Site Representative or Supervisor to get his directive he then call The Project Manager and in his absence 1112- Project Managers Coordinator in case that a change order or conformational paper work is required before proceeding.

3.402–Fabric Shade Systems– The Crew Chief is to direct Field Technician Assistant(s) to place two ladders and lift up the frame from each end and ensure correct centered fit then check the height of the bottom of Awning Unit to the “Finished Floor” and Mark off Position in Pencil all in accord with the Plans and Shop Drawings  – If Multi Storey or necessity dictates use lifting equipment as in (3019) In the case of any incorrect fit or discrepancy contact -The Project Manager and in his absence -The Project Managers Coordinator

3.403- Fabric Shade System– All backing or blocking is a Structural Matter, it is always excluded from B & C’s scope of work and provided by the General Contractor/Buyer, If no backing has been provided, is either missing in part or incorrectly placed or of the wrong type – The Crew Chief must call The Project Manager for instructions who may either withdraw the installation team, authorize installation to proceed where there is suitable backing, request a change order for additional an additional trip charge or authorize if necessary The Crew Chief to drill or lay out backing location to ensure correct placement.

3.404- Fabric Shade Systems– A simple check to establish the existence of backing at the correct location is for Field Technician Assistant(s) to  drill a small ¼” hole in the center of Bracket Points. If no backing is located fill the holes to restore the original appearance then The Crew Chief must contact -The Project Manager and in his absence -The Project Managers Secretary at the same time assigning other tasks to Field Technician Assistant(s)  until the matter is resolved .Under no circumstances must Field Technician Assistant(s) be permitted to stand around awaiting a resolution and  The Crew Chief  has a duty to always have in hand a number of tasks  which can be assigned  to Field Technician Assistant(s) to keep each one of them productive.

3.405- Fabric Shade Systems– Using a Straight Edge or Chalk Line stretched between the marks in (4002) The Crew Chief  with the help of Field Technician Assistant(s) should Snap the Chalked String or Mark along the Straight Edge the intended line to be finally hidden by the installed frame and establish a level between  all the attachment points shown on Shop Drawings Crew Chief must ensure that all the markings will finally  upon installation be covered by Canopy. The overhead Support Arms ( if any) may be marked out at this time or later.

3.406- Fabric Shade Systems The Crew Chief with the help of the Field Technician Assistant(s) should position the “Z” Frame Support Clips at the center of the Chalk Line and mark for each drill hole. The position and frequency of “Z” clips should be checked to coincide with those shown on the approved Shop Drawings and should fall at the center between the ribs. The Crew Chief must be aware that depending on the tube dimension the top of the frame must l be located that dimension above the saddle of the “Z” clip and the clearance of the bottom of the frame to found should be equal to that shown upon the approved submissions

3.407- Fabric Shade Systems– The Crew Chief with the help of the Field Technician(a) will attach through the center hole the “Z” clips at the marked drill hole points as in (3.406). at distances no greater than 10” from the ends of each frame, A minimum of One- “Z” clip should be applied to Vertical Frame Members using Lag Anchor Bolts, Self Tapping Screws into Light Gauge Metal Framing, Expanding Bolts in the Type, Diameter Length and Frequency shown on the approved Shop Drawings. As a professional courtesy to Contractors ,Plastic Sleeve Inserts and Caulking should be applied into all drill holes and wall penetrations before applying Anchor Bolts not with standing that this service may be shown to be by others and is excluded from B & C; approved submissions.

3.408– Fabric Shade Systems– Before raising the Awning Canopy Frames to finally install, The Crew Chief should direct a Field Technician(s) to check approved Shop Drawings for the method of attachment of fabric and where Aluminum Rope Track is specified cut the appropriate length and Tech Screw the Rope Track with screws 6” on Center as required.

3.409– Fabric Shade Systems– Where Rope Track has been previously installed on the Awning Frames and before raising the Frames into position The Crew Chief should direct a Field Technician(s) to carefully select clean dry ground free of abrasive rocks which may scuff the Frames unpack the fabric covers and slide the fabric onto the Rope Track,Tension and secure the fabric with tech screws or rivets according to approved Shop Drawings.

3.410– Fabric Shade Systems The Crew Chief should check the Frames (before lifting) with approved Shop Drawings to determine if any Anchor Tech Screws ,”Z” Clips or Fixers or Rope Track needs Paint or the Frame needs touch up and direct a Field Technician(s) accordingly

3.411- Fabric Shade Systems – When using either Ladders, Hand Crank, Boom, Scissor Lift, Ladders or other The Crew Chief is to ensure the ground is level and pressure safe for the equipment which must be correctly positioned for lifting with no tendency to list. The units are to be hand carried onto or loaded onto the lift or ladders by fully trained Field Technician Assistant(s) assigned to the lift or carry by The Crew Chief. The Field Technician Assistant(s) are then to raise the unit level with and ensure that the Chalk Line or Marker Line or Points are covered as in (4005-4006). The Crew Chief will usually direct that the Brackets or Support Arms be installed (if any) at this point rather than earlier to avoid later misalignment, errors in Bracket or Support Arm Placement or chalk line exposure which cannot be removed. Often Technician Assistant(s) are instructed by the Crew Chief to assemble and attach all the Fabric, Rope Track, and any Hanger Support Arms onto the unit before hoisting which aids exact placement. Sometimes additional anchor holes may be necessary and then marked and drilled as soon after the unit is correctly placed with the first brackets secured and progressively in sequence thereafter.

3.412-Fabric Shade Systems– The Crew Chief is responsible to ensure that in every case where overhead support arms are required the position for the two extreme ends (and others) should be established by reference to the approved shop drawings and a level determined and lightly marked Not visible following their installation. Verticals should then be established which relate with exactness to the precise position of the bracket already attached to the Shade Units. Having established bracket plate positions correct hole sizes should be drilled in accord with 3020 and 3021 and anchor bolts inserted then torque in accord with the approved Shop Drawings.
